Training Workshops

Lean Project Management Training workshops are designed to understand best practice Lean methods & processes throughout the project lifecycle (Conceptualization, Initiation, Planning, Execution, Control, & Closure) in order to improve project execution effectiveness and improve project speed. The workshop also focuses on cultivating the behaviors of highly effective project teams and the soft skills needed for effective project leaders, including facilitation and how to influence without authority.   (Partial & Full Day workshops)

Project Lifecycle

Lean Product Development Overview Training workshops to broaden awareness and understanding of Lean concepts, methods, and tools at the Process, Practice, and Pipeline Layers.  (Partial & Full Day workshops)

Lean Product Development Detailed Training workshops (Partial Day) focusing on:

Pipeline Management: 1) Best practice prioritization methods, data, and cadence for effective decision making, 2) Communications of priorities and self-governing work rules, and 3) Effective resource forecasting practices for cross functional alignment, capacity management, and project speed through focus.

Visual Management and Agile Practices:  1) Visual Management practices for various project types including five different types of project visual boards and when to use them, 2) Best practices for adopting Agile including the use of a balanced approach for all types of product development projects, and 3) Effective organization structures for project leadership.

Facilitated Acceleration Events: Training in team based facilitated acceleration events designed to complete a large amount of project work in a short period of time. Training included specific practices and tools for 1) Market Requirements Events, 2) Project Schedule and Risk Mitigation Events, and 3 ) Rapid Learning Cycles.

Project Team Based Acceleration Events

Working directly with project teams to facilitate and accelerate needed work.  This includes:

Market Requirements Event:   Working with market facing professionals, functional leaders, and project team members to translate voice of the customer, market positioning, and competitive analysis into a prioritized list of customer differentiators and parity plays.  The event concludes with a prioritized list of product features with levels of performance and high-level risks identified.   Deploying this event improves quality, increases organizational alignment of project goals and scope, and increases speed to market.  Average time saved vs traditional methods of information gathering via a series of meetings is 2 to 3 months.  The event is deployed shortly after project kick-off during the ‘fuzzy front end’ of a project.

Project Schedule and Risk Mitigation Event:  Pulling the full project team together for an event to capture high level functional deliverables and key activities, working as a team to identify how work is connected across functions, and compressing / optimizing the project schedule. Also included in this event is the identification of project risks with impacts and probabilities scored, and the determination of mitigation strategies, actions, and ownership for high priority risks. This activity builds a high integrity schedule as a team, improving ownership of the project schedule, and increases speed to market by 1 to 2 months on average vs traditional methods. This event also generates a risk register for a project and kick starts risk management activities.

Rapid Learning Cycle Event: Rapid Learning Cycle are effective ways to identify key decisions and knowledge gaps, question assumptions and develop action plans for learning as a focused team activity. Rapid Learning Cycles can be deployed prior to or shortly after the Project Schedule event to identify unknowns and reduce project risks. Rapid Learning Cycles can also be deployed effectively as a method for managing the work of technology projects with a great deal of unknowns and learning required.
